Exhibition intertwines two stories: of ancient warriors who were lovers and died at war, and of modern lovers who lost each other at a rave party. They are connected by the place: Mykonos island and the Pierro’s – a gay club renowned for its parties in the 1970s. Exhibition examines modern gay culture by dissecting and deconstructing symbols. Music is a background to the struggle of characters in the story, connecting the past and the present.
Music takes structural inspiration from modern club electronics, and mixes them with sound design reminiscent of harp, lute, woodwinds, falling sand, howling wind, rustling leaves, agitated breaths, flowing water… of what it could sound like if we listened to ancient greek music. It consists of lullaby-like tunes, simple, that were not only there for the pleasure of listening, but also served as a necessary vehicle for memory. It treats sounds of nature like orchestra and a necessary backdrop, as probably the greeks would, without modern soundproofing architecture, with clues taken from musique concrète, but instead of field recording, it chooses to synthesise all sounds, as a form of seeking, almost prayer like, for something lost.
