‘ALIEN’: THE BECHDEL CUT
       2021

Film is an appropriation work where supposedly feminist film 'Alien' is precisely cut to leave frames that meet the Bechdel Test requirements. The Bechdel Cut is 26 minutes long while the original was 117 minutes. We are left mostly with images of the flying spaceship and some shots form the last scenes where Ripley fights the xenomorph.

Such approach which is stricter then the actual Bechdel Test attempts to map all the masculine actors in the heteronormative and colonial mission of the ship. After they are gone we are left with incohesive meditative film that investigates the imbalance of speech and space. The main character of the Bechdel Cut becomes the mother-spaceship within whose body the whole drama unfolds.

Since the film was premiered in the oldest working cinema in Europe ('Pionier' in Szczecin, Poland), the perspective of the screening was skewed to symbolically step out of supposedly neutral perspective of the screening room.
